Where the Maps End (in progress)

I’m fortunate to be a member of The Art Collective Gallery. In 3 weeks, I will be the monthly featured artist. Not having a lot of time to prepare for this, lots of things are surfacing for me.

How quickly can I create pieces? How much am I affected by the “commercial” aspect of being in a gallery? Is there a way I can simply my usual way of making larger pieces with a message?

At first, I thought I could quickly do studies of color or replicated some beautiful beach photos that I have taken.

But my calling is to bring beauty and illumination and, to me, that means archetypes – those universal forces that have partnered behavior for all time in all places. To bring awareness to the patterns that dictate us so that we can choose the more conscious path.

I landed on the Explorer this time—not just as a historical figure charting new lands, but as an energy that drives us to investigate the unknown within ourselves and the world around us. The Explorer asks big questions, ventures into unfamiliar territory, and seeks deeper understanding—whether that’s through geography, anatomy, philosophy, or the soul. But this archetype also has a shadow side, rooted in ego, exploitation, and conquest. There’s the beauty of the quest and the cost of the journey.

As I work, I find myself becoming the Explorer. I’m not just exploring a theme—I’m navigating how to simplify, how to stay true to my vision, and how to choose techniques and materials that align with what I love most. I’m also exploring my own relationship to art-making and the tension between authenticity and commercial appeal. This process is a journey in itself—one of inquiry, refinement, and self-discovery. And like any true exploration, it’s revealing more than I expected.

Art, Archetype & Ancient Wisdom

Here’s a great resource for you:

I frequently refer to the treasure of the Archive for Research in Archetypal Symbolism (ARAS)—a global, multi‑era collection of around 18,000 images, each rich with myth, ritual, and symbolic resonance. Every image comes with thoughtful commentary that situates it in its cultural and historical moment, while also shedding light on its psychological and spiritual potential. ARAS has become a wellspring for my creative process: I dip into its visual archive when I want to evoke universal motifs, test symbolic languages, or deepen the archetypal heartbeat of my own work.

This evocative tableau—a scene of a teacher and children in a classroom—is emblematic of the archetypal impulse to explore, learn, and pass on wisdom. Though not a literal “Explorer,” it powerfully evokes the metaphorical explorer within us all—the inner teacher, the quest to unveil the unknown, the bravery to ask big questions. https://aras.org/

October 2025 Behind the Scenes Photo back layer Completed piece Portal in process I had long wanted to try Wen Redmond’s holographic printing technique—the way it layers light and image always felt like peering into another realm. I finally braved it, and with a little ingenuity (and a touch of beginner’s magic), I created a small piece that feels like a shimmering window into another world. “There’s No Place Like Home” is part of the S.A.F.E. Behind the Scenes Becoming Artist of the Month at The Art Collective Gallery was both exhilarating and daunting. I realized that as many pieces of art that I have laying around, they would not hang well together. I suddenly had to produce 12–14 new works in just three and a half weeks. That deadline stirred up all kinds of inner voices — the survivor archetypes showed up in full force. The Victim complained there wasn’t enough time. The Saboteur whispered that I’d never pull it off. The...
