October 2025 Behind the Scenes I had long wanted to try Wen Redmond’s holographic printing technique—the way it layers light and image always felt like peering into another realm. I finally braved it, and with a little ingenuity (and a touch of beginner’s magic), I created a small piece that feels like a shimmering window into another world. “There’s No Place Like Home” is part of the S.A.F.E. Animal Rescue fundraiser now on view at The Art Collective, a 5” x 5” work available for purchase with all proceeds going directly to the charity. There’s something beautiful about seeing a technique you’ve admired take form in your own hands. The holographic surface almost breathes—offering a glimpse of what’s seen and what’s just beyond. Of course, this has inspired my next idea: to create one of my “portals,” a piece that gives a snapshot into a world beyond, using this very technique. Sometimes the smallest experiments open the largest doors. What are you working on? UpcomingHouston — Ready for Takeoff! Soul Stories: Threads of Existence is preparing for lift-off to the Houston International Quilt Festival! We’d love for you to stop by and see the exhibit in person—each piece woven with heart, meaning, and message. Soul Stories is a new collective of exhibiting fiber artists connected not by how we create, but by why we create. As artist Sue Sherman so beautifully says, “Our common ground is not in the artwork or how we make it, but in the thought behind it—every piece carries a message that the artist feels passionately about.” Join us for Artist Talks on Friday at 2:00 PM and Saturday at 2:00 PM to hear more about the stories, insights, and creative sparks behind the work. It’s an honor to share this journey with such a remarkable group of artists—and we hope you’ll come experience it with us in Houston! Monthly Zoom Meetup - Returns! These conversations matter because when we recognize archetypal patterns, we increase awareness, deepen our consciousness, and amplify the collective creative field. · bring artwork, discoveries, announcements, and promotions · explore the month’s archetype · reflect on who you are as artist is at this moment in time. Art, Archetype & Ancient Wisdom Archetypes are simply patterns—universal stories and behaviors that shape how we see the world and express ourselves within it. The Artist is one of those patterns, representing the part of you that’s driven to create, to imagine, and to give beauty a voice. But we’re never just one pattern; we’re a whole constellation of them. Sometimes, another archetype within you steps forward to help your artist shine—a companion that offers inspiration when you feel stuck, motivation when you lose momentum, or accountability when you need a gentle nudge. These patterns often play off each other in fascinating ways, weaving together to form your unique creative rhythm. This short, playful quiz is a chance to see which archetype might be your artist’s companion right now. It’s not a test—just a lighthearted snapshot that might reveal something meaningful about your creative behavior and motivation. 👉 Take the Quiz: Discover Your Creative Companion Archetype |
Behind the Scenes Becoming Artist of the Month at The Art Collective Gallery was both exhilarating and daunting. I realized that as many pieces of art that I have laying around, they would not hang well together. I suddenly had to produce 12–14 new works in just three and a half weeks. That deadline stirred up all kinds of inner voices — the survivor archetypes showed up in full force. The Victim complained there wasn’t enough time. The Saboteur whispered that I’d never pull it off. The...
Behind the Scenes Where the Maps End (in progress) I’m fortunate to be a member of The Art Collective Gallery. In 3 weeks, I will be the monthly featured artist. Not having a lot of time to prepare for this, lots of things are surfacing for me. How quickly can I create pieces? How much am I affected by the “commercial” aspect of being in a gallery? Is there a way I can simply my usual way of making larger pieces with a message? At first, I thought I could quickly do studies of color or...
Behind the Scenes Quilt being blocked booked Quilt after drying “Dissolving into Wholeness” With Neptune in my 12th astrological house, I feel deeply connected to the unseen—dreams, intuition, and collective emotion. In my archetypal wheel, The Healer resides in this house also, guiding me through the realms of the unseen and the sacred creating opportunities to explore moving from Separation to Wholeness. "I used over 125 thread colors, changing threads roughly every five minutes, and logged...
