April 2026 Behind the ScenesI’ve been spending time completing an Angel Book, a small but meaningful project that reminds me that not every creative act must be monumental to be sacred. Some works are grand and public. Others are quiet companions. This little book feels like a conversation with beauty, protection, and unseen guidance. There is something healing about finishing what has been waiting patiently. What creative project in your life is asking to be completed? Every artist carries a luminous creative self but also a set of inner survival patterns that can protect, limit, bargain with, or sabotage that creative life. In this reflective class, we will explore the four universal survival archetypes through the lens of the artist’s journey. These patterns are known as the Child, Victim, Compromiser, and Saboteur. Rather than treating creative blocks as failures, we will learn to recognize them as meaningful patterns asking for awareness and integration. Through teaching, journaling, symbolic imagery, gentle embodiment, and creative mapping, participants will identify the archetypal forces shaping their own creative path. Participants will also create a personal symbolic art piece using intuitive imagery and collage elements that gives visible form to their discoveries and emerging creative truth. You will leave with a clearer understanding of where your creative power has been hidden, where you may be giving it away, and what your inner artist is ready to see, strengthen, and choose Art, Archetype & Ancient WisdomThe King archetype represents leadership, order, protection, and the wise use of power. As are all archetypes, it is gender neutral. At its highest level, this archetype creates stability where there is chaos, sets healthy boundaries, and acts for the good of the whole. Historically, the crown symbolized more than status. It was seen as a conduit between heaven and earth, resting on the head as a sign that authority should be guided by something higher than ego. The mature Sovereign understands that true leadership is stewardship, not self importance. Yet the shadow side of this archetype can be formidable. One expression is the Tyrant, who dominates, controls, punishes, or rules through fear. Another is the fearful ruler who becomes suspicious, isolated, and consumed by the anxiety of losing the throne. This shadow fears being replaced, overthrown, or diminished, and may stop trusting others altogether. When insecurity governs power, harsh decisions can be made and others may be left in the wake, carrying the cost of that fear. Another way the shadow may manifest is the Weak King, who avoids responsibility, hesitates to act, abdicates authority, or allows disorder to reign. This figure may wear the crown outwardly but lacks inner sovereignty. The deeper invitation of the King archetype is self reflection. Where in your life are you called to lead, protect, organize, or provide direction? Where might you dominate, withdraw authority, or fear losing influence? Every person has an inner kingdom made up of relationships, responsibilities, values, and choices. To awaken the healthy Sovereign is to lead with wisdom, share power generously, and remember that authority rooted in integrity does not need to rule by fear. |
March 2026 Behind the Scenes Indra’s Net – The Infinite Light Within 42" × 59" (In Process) Artist Statement: Indra’s Net reflects the Buddhist vision of an infinite web where each luminous jewel mirrors all others and each part contains the whole. Nothing exists alone. Each of us shines with a singular light, yet our radiance is magnified through reflection. We are shaped by one another; our choices ripple outward beyond what we see. To look into one jewel is to glimpse the whole - an...
December 2025 Behind the Scenes As I continue working on a piece inspired by the story of Indra’s Net, I was struck by a line from artist Sandra Junele, who said that watching her grandfather transform discarded wood taught her that “waste is not the end of a story, but the beginning of a new one.” Her words mirror the very heart of Indra’s Net — the ancient idea that everything is connected, everything reflects everything else, and nothing is ever truly separate or disposable. In Indra’s...
November 2025 Behind the Scenes Ollie Behind the Seams: Where Love and Fabric Meet This was my studio on an ordinary afternoon — fabric everywhere, light in all corners, and Ollie, my steadfast studio companion, stretched out across my work as if to remind me that presence matters more than perfection. I once made a quilt inspired by this very moment. It didn’t turn out well — at least, not in the way I hoped — and I think I eventually let it go. Now, with Ollie gone, I find myself wishing...
